History

Our humble beginnings

In early 2012 :  Doug Bettens and Brian Lawson discussed creating a men's shed in Pomona, there was a notice in the local paper for men in the area who would be interested in joining in this venture. Over time this call produced 8 men who stayed thru to the task.

It was decided to come together once a month in the Lawson shed to discuss options to obtain a shed and to see how many men in this area shown an interested in the concept. We collected over an hundred and fifty names on the heritage day in that year, so yes its worth while to continue trying to find a permanent shed.

Over the years we looked at various possibilities in the area some not suitable others too expensive due to rezoning and other costs.

In the mean time we did some community tasks, buiding a patio roof for the community house, building a pizza oven, building 50 bird cages etc, had stalls at markets and other special days to show yes we are still around.

At the end of 2014 we finaly discovered a viable option, a shed on the forestry land which has been vacant for some time.  It did not take too long for us to gain approval from Forestry department.

In the 3 years until  Dec 2017, we  made the old shed water proof by improving the dainage on site, put new a skin on the building had water connected tanks to Unity Water, build new shed next to it partitioned a meeting room with build in kitchen, constructed a small shade house, bought in a container and some small sheds for storage. And the lists goes on.

Slow progress and development over the years has provided opportunities to grow, both in membership numbers and in the types of equipment and activities available to members.

We are currently looking for approval and financial support to expand our footprint, construct a new shed to compliment our existing facilities, and enable the membership to grow.
